Tatsuo Tajima Yūri-kinsai # 21
This is Tatu's long shanked Japanese Sea Urchin pipe. A sandblast with a stunning black/moss green stain over which he applies - Yūri-kinsai - lacquer with real gold leaf. The shank extension is a fragrant wood called Palo Santo. This wood is green and has been used as a good luck talisman for over 100 years in Japan. The stem is a dark moss green/black that compliments the bowls staining.
As most Japanese art derives its ideas from nature as does this pipe. The walls are surprising thick for a pipe of this size & with its long shank ensures that it delivers a cool smoke. Sitter.
