David Huber 3 New
David bought his first pipe in 2006, and was immediately intrigued by it. He then started to acquire more to study and their aesthetics. Those of the Danish & Japanese schools - especially interested him. In 2010 he ordered a few briar blocks. Two years later he finished his 1st pipe. Then bravely he ventured forth to created more.
Word of his work spread rapidly. He received first place in the 2013 annual juried Kansas City pipe-carving contest. In 2014 he decided to be a full time pipe maker. Previously he had been a successful live theater designer. In 2015 he won Best-In-Show at the Kansas City show. As commendable a validation as any pipe maker could ask for.
Every one of his pipes are unique unto themselves. His shapes are rooted in his studying & what he learnt from the work of the masters. Every piece is made from the absolute best materials by his hands alone.
David produces his DSH Pipes, and is an artist-in-residence at Liberty Arts Sculpture Studio & Foundry in Durham, North Carolina.
