Ferndown pipes by Les Wood embody the revival of English pipe making that was initiated by Ashton in the early 1980s. Oil treated in the tradition of both Dunhill and Ashton, Les Wood pipes are renowned for their pleasant, slightly nutty flavor and remarkable smoking characteristics. About 90% of them are made in rusticated "Bark" finish and the balance are a smooth "Reo" or "Root" & Premier sandblast. Les Wood was the master silver smith at Alfred Dunhill Ltd. before starting L. & J.S. All Ferndowns have silver work & hand cut stems from A grade German Vulcanite that doesn't discolor.
Premiers' are bowls turned by Les & Dolly Wood, sandblasted by Michael Parks, then back to Britain for staining, stemming, silver work and finishing. Premiers are exclusive to pipes2smoke.com. The Ferndown pipe represents the best of England's "5th generation" of quality pipe makers.
Les Wood officially retired in 2018. These last five (5) pipes are stamped with an L to signify the Last pipes Les will make.
