Scott Thile is musician and piano tuner when not making pipes. Between these activities Scott found time to start and still maintains the website pipedia (wiki for pipes). Music is a mixture of mathematics and inspiration/perspiration. So, it is not surprising that Scott added pipe making to his repertoire, starting in 2004. It needs the same fusion of precision & creativity as music. All his pipes have a 5/32nd draft hole and mouthpieces are hand cut from Grade A German ebonite.
Scott is pretty much a self-taught pipe maker who started in 2004. Along the learning curve he spent some time with Todd Johnson & the late Bruce Weaver. His main influence is the fresh Amero-Danish aesthetic.
