Commonweal II Sunrise # 2358
This is a carved sandblast, a finish that Tatsuo developed based on an ancient Japanese technique. The pipe can best be called a Sunrise as on each side there is a smooth area from which the carving flows and summer morning sun. The symbol of Japan - land of the rising sun - summer sunrise is early, 3:30 AM.
The flowing lines of the carving are stained in the valleys a deep brown/burgundy with peaks almost black. The rim has a lower lip rim on on the left side. Quite unique in every way. The shank end has a faux bamboo knuckle complimented by a Cumberland stem.
This is a large pipe with the shank flaring at its end. Plus it is a sitter.
