Jose Rubio Horn # JR 68
This is Jose's take on the classic horn. For a smooth or a sandblast he will only use blocks that will have great grain. He is consistently able to do this.
It is a a surprise to see a Horn from Jose. It is not what you call a tradition British classic. It originated as a Danish shape in the 50's. I think this can now be classic after 75 years approximately. This pipe shape is always works best as a smooth with good grain. This one has outstanding grain.
The front into bottom is totally covered in birdseye, the sides are tight crossgrain, while the back top starts as flame grain and transitions to tight birdseye. The rim on the front is flame grain and the back half is birdseye. Whether it is to be a smooth or a sandblast Jose uncannaily always selects the right block to for what he sees in his mind's eye.
Besides its beautiful shaping, graining and staining it has very thick walls and is a sitter. Like most of Jose's pipes this one has thick walls to deliver a cool session. Truly a stunning pipe.
