Clark Layton Mini Magnum Volcano # DL 102

To me these large pieces that Clark occasionally does - when he has the blocks needed - shows his fine sense of proportions and balance. It demands more than just scaling up a given shape. There are adjustments in the ratios needed. If not well understood a the piece becomes a clunky large X. The first of Clarks pipes I ever saw was a large bent squat bulldog stained claret (estate) that really impressed me. This Mini-Magnum is equal to the best of the few makers of large pipes.
