Northern Briars Cavalier Claret # 99
A classic British Cavalier. It was favored by the Royalists in the British civil war 1642-1651. The Cavaliers favored long hair, often wigs, colorful silk or velvet clothing and broad brimmed hats with long ostrich plumes or other large feathers. The Roundheads, - Puritans wore black clothes and hats with no adornment. The Puritans won and Charles I was beheaded. The pipe shape regained popularity and came back into favor in 1661 when the monarchy was restored. Ever since it has kept its popular 'Cavalier' name. Another one of those shapes shapes that were favored by Cavalrymen. An other was the hungarian favored by continental "Hussars", (cavalry). If you want to smoke it while wearing a broad brimmed hat you will be in flowing Royalist style.
The pipe like all Cavaliers has an end of shank screwed on plug, that taken off allows any moisture to blown out or absorbed by a inserted pipe cleaner. Insuring a dry cool smoke. This pipe has a good sized bowl.(GR 4)
