Tatsuo Tajima Dublin Yūri-kinsai # 3

$655.00

This is the most asymmetrical Japanese pipe I have seen. Their pipes are known for this and this one is an almost ultimate expression of such. It has curves, angles, twists and the back right carved groove of the bowl works a a thumb if so desired. With all its shaping it is well balanced in the hand and a perfect sitter.

The sides are smooth and stained high contrast  black/grey & then the Yūri-kinsai technique - is used to apply a gold leaf flecks. A metaphor for the bubbles of air left on a tree trunk at the edge of a babbling brook. A very Japanese symbol. The rim is covered in Birdseye. The graining is superb. The stem is a dark grey/green black  and the pipe is a perfect sitter.
