David Huber # DH 7
David is a fan of Volcano's and I have seen a variety of his. I would go so far as to say this is one the most imaginative Volcano's I have seen from him or anybody else. He develops and has his lines follow each other. Look at the sharp line from the shank top running down the side then flaring out to form the bowl & then runs all around the bottom while a separate line branches off vertically up the bowl. Then notice how the rim curves higher from front to back and this line copies the bottom bowl line. While bowls volume is visually balanced by the shanks thickening at its end. This pipe is an outstanding fusion of Bauhaus design of volume and line with eye catching grain.
The grain is tight and contrasty while the bottom is covered in birdseye with areas of Plateau giving the pipe an ever so slight Japanese sense. Then look at the pipe picture of the bottom and it resembles a Cello in shape.
With its stunning grain & unique shaping we see a budding master at work.
