Tatsuo Tajima Full Bent Yūri-kinsai Gold # 24

This is Tatsuo's new finish. Yūri-kinsai is a gold leaf application ancient technique used in Japanese pottery. Tatsuo began studying it a few years ago to learn if it could and how to apply it to briar pipes. He developed a method.

This full bent has a plateau rim and end of shank. This smooth  the bowl is - Yūri-kinsai - lacquer with real gold leaf. As most Japanese art derives its ideas from nature so does this pipe. This is symbolizes a tree partially submerged in a brook. The gold dots that overlap suggest the bubbles in the water swirling around the tree trunk. Interestingly the gold bubbles are slightly raised on the surface giving the bowl a wonderful tactile feel. 

This is truly an unusual pipe that outside of Japan does not exist. A classic shape made with a 900 year old technique.
