This pipe Tatsuo calls the X, very appropriate. It is definitely the letter “X” of the Roman alphabet. The aesthetic(s) of Japan are so different than those of the West, once called Christendom. Our aesthetic view evolved from the Ancient Greeks, both the plastic arts & the literary. Japan was another world and still is.
Japanese, evolved from the Chinese written script, then they went their own way. To them our alphabet has very angular letters. Our Roman letters are totally different to their ideographic symbols of Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana, two phonetic alphabets (syllables).This is definitely the letter “X” of the Roman alphabet.
