Tatsuo saw the NASA  outer space images of Jupiter with its many satellites and decided to try make  a pipe inspired by them. The 1st step was to find a few blocks big enough as he knew it would take more than one attempt. After a three  discards over many months this, the fourth, finally expressed what he felt about the immensity of our Galaxy. The two eyes carved on the bottom are Tatu’s.

It is certainly a large one of a kind at  8 3/8” (210mm). A unique truly extraordinary pipe. Rotate it in your hand it will delight the eye. Tatsuo said he would probably never make another this was so difficult to carve. N.B. There are a lot of pictures of this pipe - below.

Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and the largest in the Solar System. It has 95 moons and likely more. Composite image of the planet Jupiter with its 4 Galilean moons. Anticlockwise, from lower left, the moons are Europa, Callisto, Ganymede, and Io (appearing closest to Jupiter). These moons are the largest of at least 16 natural satellites of Jupiter. They are so big that if they orbited the Sun they would be considered planets in their own right: Ganymede is larger than Mercury. They were discovered by the Italian astronomer Galileo in 1610 using one of the first telescopes.
