Tatsuo Tajima Volcano 'shide' # 25

This is not a Volcano pipe per se. It is the lower tree trunk of a sacred tree in Japan. The heavy rope around the tree with paper symbols is a 'Shinto" shide -(a talisman) - that keeps away demons & other evils. The pipe comes with its own 'shide' 2nd last picture.

Tatsuo was inspired to make ths pipe after visiting  the  Shizuoka ken Tenryuku Haruno shrine south of Tokyo. Last picture.

The pipe as is large and is more akin to a tree bark pipe than a Volcano.  It has the almost muscular look that very old trees have. Tatsuo has  sandblasted it, then finished it with shiny green/gold flecks as the moss on the tree, the miniscule shiny flecks are the moisture bubbles. The green on the bottom simulates the moss growing on the top of the stream stones. The stem is a dark green/black brindle that goes well with the briar.

It's a sitter.
